PRESS RELEASE Carolyn Garrison, Owner Rockstar Cheer Atlanta Woodstock, GA, April 23, 2018 – Rockstar Cheer Atlanta, a local cheerleading training facility, is proud to announce that 7 of their teams have been selected to compete at one of the nation’s most prestigious cheerleading competitions, The Summit, produced by Varsity All Star. The Summit, held at Walt Disney World® Resort’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex May 3-6, is the season-capping goal for many competitive all star teams. The 2018 Summit will showcase more than 3,000 teams from across the United States and will include performances in the new Arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Officially opened in January, this is the first facility in the world built specifically for cheer and dance competitions. “Teams competing at The Summit must receive a bid at a prior competition to be eligible to participate,” says Brian Elza, Co-General Manager and Vice President of Sales for Varsity All Star, which is comprised of multiple all star competition brands under the Varsity Spirit umbrella. “That’s what makes The Summit so rewarding for our young gym,” says owner Carolyn Garrison. “We worked so hard all season long to meet all the stringent bid requirements to have an opportunity to compete against the top gyms in the country at The Summit. To give a comparison, being invited to this competition is like going to the Super Bowl. Along the way, our gym received bids for 7 of our teams to compete—and an astonishing 55 invitations for the Rockstar Gym brand as a whole.” As bid event competitions took place all across the country over various weekends this season, cheerleaders gathered to watch Varsity TV on Monday evenings to find out if their weekend’s performance qualified them to join their elite peers in Orlando. Rockstar Cheer Atlanta all stars will be competing May 3-6, 2018. Fans at home can watch a livestream of the event on Varsity TV on Varsity.com. If your child is interested in becoming an all star cheerleader, please visit Rockstar Cheer Atlanta, 101 Smokehill Lane, Suite 101, Woodstock, GA 30188. Rockstar Cheer Atlanta made history when we debuted our first Worlds eligible team at the ECC Big Bid competition held in Birmingham, Alabama. Our program earned a place among the best-of-the-best in the industry by taking 2nd overall and earning an At-Large bid to attend Worlds held in Orlando, Florida in late April. Grateful Dead is in the IOC (international open coed) large level 5 division. The team is comprised of boys and girls ages 14 and over. The open division does not give a maximum age limit which allows coaches and athletes to take the floor side by side. We have athletes who travel from South Carolina, Alabama, and South Georgia, as well as coaches from Rockstar Atlanta South, Atlanta Elite, and many of our very own coaches who have joined together to form one amazing squad. This squad practices on Sundays from 12-2. Because they are only together once a week each athlete must make a commitment to push themselves outside of practice and come in ready to work. This weekend Grateful Dead earned the highest Raw Score, 94.6, out of all 18 eligible worlds teams at the competition. A raw score is the greatest score you could receive based on the difficulty of your jumps, stunts, pyramid, standing tumbling and running tumbling without any deductions. Not only is this a very difficult achievement it also just pretty darn good! lol Grateful Dead joins only a handful of Rockstar worlds eligible teams: Beatles, medium coed 5, out of Greenville Stones, small IOC5, out of Greenville Metallica, IOC6, out of Columbia, SC Maroon 5, small senior coed 5 , out of Raleigh, NC All of these teams, except Maroon 5, will be at Cheersport Nationals! A social media following is part of getting our name known and can help create a fan base for everyone! Please follow Grateful Dead on instagram and twitter @gratefuldead_ga Owner Carolyn Garrison's remarks from End of Season Banquet: "Last year I was given this necklace by several parents in the program. It has one stone for each squad we had our last year as NMEC. I have worn this necklace every day since they gave it to me. As a symbol of where we started, as a guiding force of who we are, and as a testament to how we began. Every competition before the kids took the floor I would hold my necklace and pray that our kids showed what they were made of. It's surreal to say that our first competition -- when we literally swept the event and earned our first two summit bids-- that I was blown away at what we presented. The work these kids achieved, the levels to which they grew, to see the mastery of their skill was awesome! Success can be defined in many ways; on a scoreboard, on a podium, through struggles, through defeat, through challenges and through expectations. This season we've experienced all of the above. And we've had real, measurable success by our industry standards by winning national championships. I am blessed to say I could stand up here all night and list and expand on our achievements tonight and list all of the successes received as a gym. But I'm going to leave that to the coaches who guided each team throughout the season. For me I'm focusing on the program. As a program we grew from 80 full year athletes last year to 106 this year. We grew from 20 to half year kids to 46 - 1 school squad to 10...We grew from one national championship to eight. To summit bids, to four…6 squads to 7, started two brand new levels of 4.2 and restricted 5 - we have absolutely have broken through in Atlanta..we sat on a mission as a coaching staff to be the best rockstar location of them all. I believe we are on that path." My Awards: Volunteer of the year … This is not an easy award to give. We look for someone who not only volunteers to help their athlete or their squad, to someone who steps up and helps the program and it's entirety. This year's award-winner will always hold a special place in my heart. She and I… And this program… Have been together since basically the beginning… She has pushed us, complemented us, championed us, and with every turn she is always about the program. This year I am so very proud to award our most valuable parent to Michele King. You have made all of our lives better… You have made all of our athletes look better through your hair tutorial and make up tutorials. You have made our banquet look better with your leadership and attention to detail… You have made your coaches look better by taking the stress off and organizing behind the scenes… You have made all of us better. Coach of the year ... As many of you know I'm not an owner that strives to be in the limelight. I preferred to be behind the scenes orchestrating and supporting the people who stand before you. In the beginning tonight I told you that I believe success is measured in many different forms. So for coach of the year while it's easy for me to see the successes we've had on paper, the true success lies in the concept of teamwork that we preach every day. So my coach of the year is quite arguably my entire coaching staff. The staff has stepped up and shocked all of Rockstar. When we first became Rockstar, I received a lot of advice on how to manage staff in the coming year. But I followed my gut instincts ... and they stepped up. They listened, they absorbed, they implemented, they fell down, they picked each other up, they pushed, they expected more, they crossed over, they sacrificed, they work more hours and an all-star season taking very little personal time, they are the definition of the commitment level they ask out of your kids. I am so blessed they embrace the concept of this journey and we all stand here tonight beneficiaries of their leadership.
