Grateful Dead ROCKS their First Competition!
Rockstar Cheer Atlanta made history when we debuted our first Worlds eligible team at the ECC Big Bid competition held in Birmingham, Alabama. Our program earned a place among the best-of-the-best in the industry by taking 2nd overall and earning an At-Large bid to attend Worlds held in Orlando, Florida in late April.
Grateful Dead is in the IOC (international open coed) large level 5 division. The team is comprised of boys and girls ages 14 and over. The open division does not give a maximum age limit which allows coaches and athletes to take the floor side by side. We have athletes who travel from South Carolina, Alabama, and South Georgia, as well as coaches from Rockstar Atlanta South, Atlanta Elite, and many of our very own coaches who have joined together to form one amazing squad. This squad practices on Sundays from 12-2. Because they are only together once a week each athlete must make a commitment to push themselves outside of practice and come in ready to work.
This weekend Grateful Dead earned the highest Raw Score, 94.6, out of all 18 eligible worlds teams at the competition. A raw score is the greatest score you could receive based on the difficulty of your jumps, stunts, pyramid, standing tumbling and running tumbling without any deductions. Not only is this a very difficult achievement it also just pretty darn good! lol
Grateful Dead joins only a handful of Rockstar worlds eligible teams:
Beatles, medium coed 5, out of Greenville
Stones, small IOC5, out of Greenville
Metallica, IOC6, out of Columbia, SC
Maroon 5, small senior coed 5 , out of Raleigh, NC
All of these teams, except Maroon 5, will be at Cheersport Nationals!
A social media following is part of getting our name known and can help create a fan base for everyone! Please follow Grateful Dead on instagram and twitter @gratefuldead_ga
